Nice article.

I have simplified my briefs with the idea that our team should select a photo that speaks a thousand words. It's allowed us to create far richer discussions and impact without pouring bullet points over our audience/client.

Matt, good stuff all around. Thanks for putting this together!

Once in awhile I come across a book that changes the way I look at the world. The Design of Everyday Things by Donald Norman is one such book.

It taught me a lot about how, to be effective, design needs to provide some clue about how it should be used.

It requires more effort to read because reading doesn't come naturally. Recognition is better than recall - etc.
